When it comes to stamps collecting, one of the often-overlooked yet fascinating areas is that of Belgian precancelled stamps - locally known as “preos.” These low face-value definitive stamps were pre-cancelled for bulk mailing, making them common and affordable, especially for beginner and thematic collectors. Interestingly, unlike most stamps where the overprinted date indicates the issue year, on Belgian precancels it marks the expiry date—the period until which the stamps was valid for postal use, a detail that adds a unique twist for collectors.
